Right: “Macon HVAC Pro”
Don’t stuff keywords into your business name. This violates Google’s guidelines and can result in edits, reduced visibility, or even suspension. Use your actual business name only. Save keywords for categories and description.
Primary Category
This is critical. Your primary category is the single most important relevance signal. For HVAC, it’s not “HVAC contractor” – that’s too generic. Better options:
- “Heating contractor” (if heating is your main service)
- “Air conditioning contractor” (if AC is primary)
- “HVAC contractor” (if you do everything equally)
You get one primary category and up to 9 additional categories. Choose the most specific match for what you primarily do.
Macon categories to consider:
- Restaurants: Be specific (Italian restaurant, not just “restaurant”)
- Lawyers: Use your specialty (Personal injury attorney, not just “lawyer”)
- Contractors: Pick your main trade (Roofing contractor, not “general contractor”)
Business Description (750 characters max)
Bad example (generic and keyword-stuffed): “Best HVAC company in Macon GA providing AC repair, heating repair, HVAC installation, duct cleaning, and more. Serving Macon, Warner Robins, and surrounding areas. Call today!”
Good example (specific and natural): “Family-owned HVAC company serving Macon since 2015. We specialize in residential AC repair and heating system replacement in Bibb County and surrounding Middle Georgia. Available 24/7 for emergency service in Vineville, Ingleside, Shirley Hills, and downtown Macon neighborhoods. Licensed, insured, and NATE-certified technicians. Same-day service available.”
Notice the good example:
- Mentions specific neighborhoods (Vineville, Ingleside, etc.)
- Includes credentials (NATE-certified, licensed, insured)
- States actual specialties (residential AC repair)
- Uses “Macon” naturally, not stuffed
- Tells how long you’ve been in business
Service Area Setup
If you serve customers at their location (plumber, HVAC, landscaper, etc.) set up your service area properly:
- Hide your address if you don’t have a physical location customers visit
- Add service areas by city or ZIP code: Macon (31201, 31204, 31210), Warner Robins (31088), Perry (31069), Forsyth (31029), Gray (31032)
- Be realistic about where you actually serve – don’t list cities 50+ miles away
Important: Your verified business address location is still the primary factor in proximity rankings. Service area settings help you appear in searches from those areas, but businesses closer to the searcher will typically rank higher.
Hours of Operation
Set accurate hours. Include:
- Regular business hours
- Holiday hours (Christmas, Thanksgiving, July 4th, etc.)
- “Open 24 hours” if applicable
- “More hours” for departments (service dept hours vs. office hours)
Update these BEFORE holidays, not after. Showing “closed” when you’re actually open kills trust.
Services Menu
List every service you offer. For HVAC example:
- AC Repair ($89-199)
- Furnace Repair ($95-250)
- HVAC Installation ($3,500-8,500)
- Duct Cleaning ($300-600)

Include price ranges when possible. Google shows these in search results and it builds trust. You can always say “starting at $X” or provide a range.

Keep it short, casual, optional. Never offer incentives for reviews (Google penalizes this).
Follow-up template (if they don’t review in 3-4 days): “Hi [Name], just wanted to follow up on my review request from earlier this week. I know you’re busy – but if you have 2 minutes, we’d really appreciate your feedback: [Link]
Thanks again for your business!”
One follow-up only. Don’t be pushy.
Responding to Reviews
Respond to every review (good and bad). This shows Google and customers that you’re engaged.
5-star review response template: “Thanks so much, [Name]! We really appreciate you taking the time to leave this review. It was great working with you on [specific thing]. Looking forward to serving you again!”
Personal, specific, genuine. Takes 30 seconds.
Negative review response (this is critical): “Hi [Name], I’m sorry to hear about your experience. This isn’t the level of service we aim for. I’d love to discuss this further and make it right. Please call me directly at [number] or email [email]. – [Your name], Owner”
Professional, non-defensive, offers resolution. Don’t argue publicly ever.
Response time: Within 24-48 hours. Google tracks this.

Myth: “Geotagging photos helps rankings”
Reality: Google doesn’t use photo EXIF data for ranking. What matters is having many photos and regular uploads, not where they were taken.
Myth: “More keywords in description = better rankings”
